Every Claim Needs a Traceable Origin.
A single transportation emissions result may combine vehicle telemetry, fuel or energy consumption, diagnostics, inspection records, maintenance events, route and activity data, calculations and third-party records. The number at the end is only as defensible as the evidence underneath it. Carbon Forensics keeps those components connected to their origin and to one another. Source identity, timestamps, vehicle or asset association, processing history and relevant contextual records remain available so the environmental account can be followed backwards from reported outcome to underlying activity. The evidence mix changes with the transport system itself. ICE, hybrid and PHEV vehicles can generate fuel, tailpipe, diagnostic and operating records; electric vehicles add charging and electricity data; hydrogen and other fuel pathways introduce their own energy evidence; third-party freight, logistics and mobility activity relies increasingly on carrier, route, distance and contractual records.

Organizational boundaries change what has to be proved. A litre of fuel burned in an owned fleet, electricity purchased for vehicle charging and freight moved by a contracted carrier can all belong to the transportation footprint, but they enter the account through different evidence chains.
Carbon Forensics preserves those distinctions so direct operations, purchased energy and value-chain transport can be examined according to the applicable reporting methodology rather than collapsed into one generic emissions record.
SCOPE 1 — OPERATIONS
Fuel combustion and other direct operational emissions from vehicles owned or controlled within the reporting boundary. Relevant evidence can include fuel use, vehicle activity, diagnostics, emissions measurements, operating condition and fleet records.
SCOPE 2 — ENERGY
Purchased electricity or other qualifying purchased energy used within transport operations, including electricity consumed by EV charging where it falls within the reporting boundary. Metering, charging sessions, energy-source records and organizational allocation provide the supporting evidence.
SCOPE 3 — VALUE-CHAIN
Transportation activity outside direct operational control can include upstream and downstream transportation and distribution, third-party logistics, business travel, employee commuting, leased transport and other applicable value-chain categories. Carrier data, shipment records, distance and load information, fuel or energy evidence and contractual activity records provide the basis for reconstruction.

Records rarely remain inside the system where they were created. Vehicle data may move into a fleet platform; inspection results into government systems; service events through workshops; emissions calculations into reporting software; and verified outcomes into registries, finance or other institutional processes. Every handoff introduces a point where identity, context or lineage can be weakened. Carbon Forensics carries the relationship between source, transformation and subsequent use across those boundaries, allowing an authorized reviewer to see which institution produced a record, what happened to it afterwards and which later claims depend upon it.

When an environmental claim is questioned, the useful answer is not another summary number. The underlying sequence has to be recoverable: what happened, where the information came from, which records agree, what changed and how the final outcome was produced. The same source-linked evidence can support different institutional purposes without changing what originally occurred. A regulator may examine compliance, a reporting organization may account for Scope 1–3 transport emissions, an independent verifier may assess a mitigation claim, and a registry or finance institution may evaluate eligibility for its own process. Each institution applies its own rules and retains authority over its decision.
